OK, here I am starting a new thread.

What are the Heaves doing in the off season to improve so we don't see another Razorsharks title.

Will the Heaves move to a better gym so when they do go to the title game the PBL won't say "all games will be played away and we don't want to project the image that we are not a pro league because we DO NOT want to have a title game in Vermont"

Vermont will certainly not move to a new arena for next season. Player signings will probably start coming in a couple months from now, so we can see how well we shape up (as best as can be done from a preseason roster).

The Heaves first business should be signing Voight to more than a 1 year contract. Hopefully he comes back.

Please, tell me why there is such a desire to play in the old buildings. I think Vermont is a great team, but, when you compare Vermont with other teams in the league....The rest are head and shoulders above Vermont. Even those who play in a University gym. I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers, but I just don't get it.

Is there a newer arena in Vermont that could be used.

We don't have a lot of choices for basketball arenas. I'm guessing Burlington area colleges in the winter are either not available or are too expensive. The only gym in central VT might be at Norwich University, and could affect the Barre fan base. HS gyms may not be available or might be way too small for our crowds. The two auditoriums are what we have, for now.

Thanks Dogriver, that makes sense. Is there a fanbase from the southern part of the state. Shocked

Alex wanted to play in the old buildings. This is an old article, but it says a lot about the Heaves.

Article of the Week: Alexander Wolff Starts His Own ABA Team

December 15, 2005 8:01 PM

Man, this is fantastic. Sports Illustrated's Alexander Wolff has put up his own money to launch the Vermont Frost Heaves of the ABA. It's one part mad-cap fun, and another part something he's really serious about. Now he's telling all about it:

Indeed, while the idea struck in a moment of whimsy, and I'd be lying if I said that romance hasn't helped sustain it, over a year's gestation the Frost Heaves have grown serious, even metastasizing into something of a mission. We'll sell locally grown and produced food at our concession stands. We'll aspire to be the first "climate cool" team in pro sports, offsetting our carbon emissions with renewable energy credits. As sprawl and big-box stores threaten to leech vitality from the village centers that define the essence of Vermont, we'll bring life to old buildings. As the state's manufacturing sector erodes, we'll explore new ways to use the web, allowing fans with a laptop -- who now have to content themselves with fantasy sports -- to vote electronically on select team matters. As almost everything Americans consume, from food to media, gets more homogenized, and shipped farther to the point of consumption, we'll field a team with Vermont players at its core, in the same way that residents of our state shop at farmer's markets and listen to locally programmed radio. The Frost Heaves model is built for both the 21st century and the state it will call home: part reality series, part high-tech demonstration project, part New England town meeting, part local hero. In other words, not your typical pro basketball team.

The team's tagline is "We're gonna be the bump in their road." The team website has some great stuff (including news from the future). I'm adding it to the blogroll. But, seriously, if you only ever remember one thing that I have ever written over at Gekko Blogs, let it be this: if you are a company that has a great story, and goes to great lengths to do things in a way that you are proud of, then please promote yourself with a blog! Not a regular website! That's the way you'll make clear that you're different from the competition. Don't tell them once, show them over time. Mr. Wolff, the Frost Heaves must have a blog! I insist on it! Especially with a writer as the GM/owner. It's a gimme.

Nostalgia aside, there really isn't a better place to play in Vermont, and there isn't the money to build one either. The only bigger arena is the University of Vermont's Patrick Gym which I'm not sure the Frost Heaves would be allowed to use or afford.
