We're back from Wilmington...got in Thursday
evening around 730 pm. 33 hours roundtrip. We came out
shooting really cold, and seemed to be very tentative with our
passing resulting in turnovers. Wilmington, on the other hand, came out with
energy and shot very well. Leggett, Jones and Harper are all great players. McGinnis (we all remember McGinnis) wasn't much of a factor. We had trouble driving to the basket. 26 down - not a good feeling, but we slowly crept back in - we never gave up. But...the
hole was too deep. Even though we got it to 1, there was just not enough gas in the tank and ticks on the clock.
The atmosphere was great in Wilmington (except for the
drunk and obnoxous kid behind us who we had to complain about 3 times). Must've been about 800 people in the gym. The
floor was a kind of rubber concrete....if you went down, which a few of our guys did, it didn't seem to give too much. We had front row seats center court. Steve Barone and a couple fo his friends were in the area and came to the game plus we had 6 "regular" Heaves fans there.
While the loss left us all in disbelief - never a good feeling
losing in a tourney, but we're proud of the team, and are glad we made the trip. While not a great way to play a game - get down 26 and try and come back....seems that's happened to us a few times, and sometimes we come back, and unfortunately, this time we didn't.
So....the Fan Van ends another spectacular ride - 9,001 miles bringing 84 fans to 13 away game.
Hope to see everyone at the Berlin Armory at 500 pm to say farewell to another great bunch of young men.
